Where is North End in Virginia Beach?
The North End starts where the resort hotels thin out around 40th Street and runs north along Atlantic Avenue and the parallel residential streets to roughly 89th Street, where First Landing State Park and Shore Drive take over. To the west it is bounded by Crystal Lake, Linkhorn Bay and Broad Bay, which is why many lots back onto water on the west side as well as the beach on the east.
What is it like to live in North End?
This is a quieter, residential beach without boardwalk-style commercial frontage. Beach access is by public street ends, and First Landing State Park's 64th Street entrance gives access to trails and a boat ramp, and the park's main entrance and campground are off Shore Drive. The Cavalier hotel at 42nd Street and the restaurants along Laskin Road and the 30s–40s blocks are the nearest commercial spots, and the Resort Area is a short drive or bike ride south.
What kinds of homes are in North End?
Every residential parcel within a mile of 60th Street is in the city's Single Family or Duplex category. That includes original beach cottages, rebuilt larger homes, and duplexes. Lots near the ocean, on the lakes and on the bays carry the highest premiums, and many older homes have been replaced, so you will see a wide spread of ages and sizes on the same block. Flood zone status varies lot to lot, which affects insurance costs.
The largest residential subdivisions in city property records within the analysis area are Princess Anne Hills, North Virginia Beach Pirates H and North Virginia Beach Crystal A.
Prices change too fast to print here. For current asking prices, days on market and new listings, use the live North End home search, which covers about 1 mile around the area and lists the newest homes first.
Which schools serve North End?
I overlaid City of Virginia Beach parcel records on VBCPS's 2026–27 attendance zones. These are the shares of residential parcels in the North End analysis area that fall in each zone:
| Level | School | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Elementary | Linkhorn Park Elementary | 100% |
| Middle | Virginia Beach Middle | 100% |
| High | Frank W. Cox High | 100% |
Zones follow streets, so always confirm a specific address in the VBCPS School Locator. Old Donation School, the division's gifted school for grades 3–8, is citywide and admits by application, so it is not tied to any neighborhood (Old Donation School guide).
Is North End in a flood zone or jet noise zone?
Flood zones: about 2% of residential parcels in the area have a building the city maps in a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area (zones A, AE or VE). Some other buildings are listed under more than one flood designation, so check each address. If a building is in a Special Flood Hazard Area, lenders on federally backed mortgages require flood insurance.
Jet noise: none of the residential parcels in the city's data for this area fall within an NAS Oceana AICUZ noise contour.
Virginia law (Va. Code § 55.1-704) requires sellers in Virginia Beach to disclose a property's noise zone or accident potential zone. You can look up any address on the city's AICUZ page, floodplain management page and property search.
